All you will need to make the best grapefruit margarita

You will often find ingredients such as an orange liqueur, Cointreau or Grand Marnier in a classic margarita recipe to give it a lush, citrus scent, but this beautiful grapefruit Margarita is made with only 5 simple ingredients for a fun, refreshing cocktail that everyone will love! Here’s what you will have to do:

  • Tequila: I prefer to use silver tequila or tequila Blanco in my margarita recipes.
  • Simple syrup: We sweeten this margarita with a little simple syrup, but agave nectar should also work. See below to learn how to do it yourself!
  • Triple Sec: You can either add Triple Sec or a little simpler syrup for sweetness.
  • Fresh juices: We squeeze in fresh lime juice and, of course, fresh grapefruit juice for a delicious, fruity taste. No pink grapefruit juice is required.
  • To serve: They are optional but I like to add Tajin to the layer and garnish every glass with dehydrated grapefruit Slices or fresh clip of grapefruit!

How to make homemade simple syrup

Quick Short Road to Simple Syrup: Shake equal parts granulated sugar and water (2 tablespoons will be sufficient for 2 grapefruit margaritas) in a small jar For 1-2 minutes, until the sugar is dissolved. If you change the triple second for simpler syrup, double the granulated sugar and water.

Our favorite ways to garnish

You can use sea salt, but I really like to add Tajin to the rim of the glasses when I do margarita. Tajín is a Mexican mixture of spices, which usually consists of dried, ground chilli, sea salt and dehydrated lime juice. It is sharp, a little spicy, and the aroma is so tasty with this fresh grapefruit Margarita.

To raise your glass, you will cut a wedge from lime and rub the cut side of the lime on the glass rim. Pour Tajín (or sea salt) on a small plate and dip the wet glass rim into Tajín to cover it. Then make your cocktail and pour it right! Be sure to fix your drink with a dried slice of grapefruit. Learn exactly how to make dried citrus fruits here!
