Required Ingredients
Not only is our recipe creamy and delicious, but we also wanted to make sure this smoothie was healthy and filling as well!
- Pineapple pieces: Use frozen pineapple for a creamy, thick texture.
- Coconut milk: I use organic unsweetened light coconut milk. You can use a can or a box.
- honey: My favorite natural sweetener. You can omit it if you like!
- Flax seeds, chia seeds, or hemp seeds: You can use one, two, or all three of these ingredients to give your juice a boost of extra fiber and nutrients.
- Coconut oil: You can’t go wrong with a little healthy fat and some extra coconut flavor.
- Optional protein powder: If you use it, choose vanilla or unsweetened flavor.
How to make a pina colada juice
Who doesn’t love a healthy and delicious breakfast in just 5 minutes?!
- Combine and mix: Place all juice ingredients in a blender and blend until creamy.
- Decorate and serve: Pour the juice into a serving glass, garnish with pineapple and coconut, then serve.
How to thicken juices
There are two main ways to prepare a thick, creamy juice:
- Start with a smaller amount of liquid. I recommend starting with a smaller amount than the recommended amount of coconut milk, blending it in, and then adding more only as needed. You can always
- Use frozen fruit. Frozen fruit is key to a creamy smoothie. I like to keep it on hand so it’s ready when I feel like a smoothie!
Can fresh pineapple be used?
In theory, yes, but I definitely recommend using frozen pineapple for a thicker, creamier texture.
If you decide to use fresh pineapple, you will likely need to add ice to the juice to get a thick, creamy consistency.
Best blender for smoothies
In theory, you can use any blender to make a smoothie. However, after years of using different blenders, our team here has found that a high-speed blender is definitely a worthwhile investment. Here’s why:
- quality. High speed blenders last a long time. You will definitely get your money’s worth!
- performance. A high-speed blender does a much better job of blending, which means better, creamier smoothies!
We understand that buying a high-speed blender isn’t for everyone. With that in mind, we’re sharing some blenders at different price points that we’ve had good luck with!
Some blenders we’ve used and liked in the past.
Recommended: Vitamix
Lexi has used a variety of blenders. The two main contenders are Blendtec and Vitamix. If you are investing a lot and want the best quality blender, find the one that works for you. VitamixIt really stands the test of time!
Medium price option: KitchenAid Diamond 5-Speed Stand Mixer
Our food editor uses this blender at home. It’s reasonably priced and works relatively well. However, it’s not quite as good as a high-speed blender, especially when it comes to smoothies. This blender requires more liquid than a high-speed blender to fully blend the ingredients in a frozen smoothie.
Blender option for single serving: ninja pearson blender
Many people prefer to use a single-serve blender at home or in the office to make smoothies. The added bonus is that the container you use to blend can be used as a cup!
Pro Tips for Juices
- Apply immediately. It is best to serve juices immediately after blending!
- Make more! Want to serve this juice to more people? It’s very easy to double or triple the amount of this juice if needed.
- Raise the level of nutrition to the next level With a handful of spinach. Keep in mind that this will affect the color of the juice.
- Use another fruit. This smoothie is super customizable, so add whatever fruit you like! Sliced strawberries or bananas would be delicious. Again, use frozen fruit for best results.
- For a creamier juice, Add a scoop of Greek yogurt.
Submission suggestions
I recommend serving this smoothie immediately after blending for the best texture. I like to garnish it with a slice of fresh pineapple and shredded coconut.
You can also serve it with Homemade whipped coconut cream For the real pina colada taste!
Preparing juice containers to prepare easy morning juices
Frozen smoothie packs are hugely popular, and for good reason: They make morning smoothies quicker. Instead of buying pre-made smoothies, you can turn this smoothie recipe into a pre-made smoothie pack that you can keep in the freezer for whenever you want a pina colada.
To make juice bottlesSimply place all ingredients, except milk, inside a plastic bag or reusable bag and freeze until ready to use, up to 1 month.
When ready to use, simply remove the ingredients from the bag, add the milk and mix.
