Desserts are better in the fall, and this cake is a perfect example. I’ve been excited to share this for weeks, but I’ve been waiting for the right Friday in September to share it. Today’s launch of our Apple Cider candle felt perfect!
Be sure to order if you haven’t already apple cider candle! They are almost sold out now!
When I was young, I didn’t eat apple fritters or apple cider donuts. However, my family used to pick a lot of apples in upstate New York. We would get buckets and buckets of New York apples and my dad and I would eat them all.
I remember them being very tasty. Going to western New York to pick apples in the fall is something I miss about living in Ohio.
Every time I went to apple farms, their farm stands sold their sweet treats. From donuts to fritters to dense juicy apple pies. They were all there! Even though we didn’t take anything but apples, those memories inspired this cake! The best way to describe it is like applesauce, but in pie form!
Here are the details
Step 1: prepare the cake batter
This is a simple dough made with melted butter, brown sugar, apple butter, yogurt, vanilla, and eggs. Then, the usual: flour, cinnamon, baking powder, soda and salt.
Mix all this in a bowl; no need for fantasy.
Step 2: apple filling
I used Honeycrisp apples and chopped them up. Then mix the apple cores with the brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla and toss them together in a bowl.
I like to leave the skin on my apples. The skin adds more flavor and fiber! You can remove the skin if you want, but there’s no time for that here!
Step 3: layers
Now fold the cake batter with apples. Start with 1/2 the dough from the bottom, then add a layer of apples, the remaining dough, and then the remaining apples to finish.
Now bake a sweet layer cake. The smells coming from the oven will be the sweetest fall smells, so nice and comforting.
Step 4: vanilla juice
For the glaze, mix the powdered sugar with the warm milk, vanilla and a pinch of sea salt.
Ice the cake while it’s still warm. This ensures that the glaze melts into every inch of the cakes and seeps into all those hooks!
If you’re going apple picking this fall, make this easy apple pie. Serve with coffee, hot cocoa or even a glass of cider. This is a fall treat! And make sure the candles are lit. You’re sure to have created the perfect fall experience!
