Required Ingredients

  • Milk: I use almond milk, but feel free to use regular whole milk, skim milk, or any non-dairy milk of your choice.
  • Protein powder: Look for a whey protein powder made from grass-fed cows’ milk, or whatever you prefer! Or, to keep your smoothie dairy-free, use a vegan chocolate protein powder.
  • banana: Frozen bananas are key! You can freeze your own bananas or buy pre-frozen bananas from the store.
  • Chocolate: Adding a little chopped chocolate gives the smoothie a rich, chocolatey flavor. It’s optional, but worth it!
  • Almond butter: I use creamy almond butter. Feel free to use whatever brand you prefer.
  • Honey or maple syrup: For a little natural sweetness.
  • Cinnamon: Cinnamon gives the juice a light sweet flavor and an extra layer of flavor.

Tips and differences

  • Use frozen bananas. Frozen bananas are the key to getting a thick, creamy chocolate banana smoothie. Fresh bananas won’t give the same consistency.
  • If you are freezing your bananas for use in smoothies, Freeze them when they’re good and ripe for maximum sweetness.
  • Apply immediately. Smoothies are best when they’re fresh from the blender!
  • Don’t want to use protein powder? Try replacing it with 1 tablespoon of collagen peptides and 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder.
  • If you prefer a thicker juice, Add less milk or mix in avocado or frozen cauliflower.
  • For a thinner juice, Just add more milk.
  • For an extra boost of nutrition, Mix in a handful of flax seeds, chia seeds, or hemp seeds.
  • Make a smoothie with peanut butter and chocolate. Substitute peanut butter for almond butter if you prefer. I can attest that this tastes a lot like a peanut butter cup.
