High protein white hot chocolate

When I crave hot chocolate, it’s usually white hot chocolate. One night I created this simple protein-packed white hot chocolate while trying to hit my protein goals. I whipped it up in the microwave on a whim and it instantly became my favorite on cold nights. It can also be simmered on the stove. I feel indulgent as I satisfy both my sweet tooth and my protein goals in one cozy cup! For more holiday drinks, try mine Frozen Hot Chocolate, Pumpkin Spice Latteand Pomegranate Martini

Why you’ll love this high-protein snack

Gina @ Skinnytaste.com

Call me weird, but I prefer white hot chocolate to traditional hot cocoa. When I don’t want caffeine but want something hot and sweet, I love Starbucks White Chocolate Hot Cocoa. So, I loved this homemade white hot chocolate with a pre-made vanilla protein shake (don’t use powder here – it won’t be good)!

  • High in protein: Great high protein snack if you feel like eating something warm and sweet. Over 15 grams of protein per cup!
  • Easy: I’ve included microwave and stovetop instructions below – both methods only take a few minutes.
  • 3 ingredients: All you need is a vanilla protein shake, white chocolate chips and cinnamon.
  • Dietary restrictions: Suitable for weight watchers, vegetarian, vegan (if using a vegan protein shake and chocolate chips), gluten free, high protein.

Ingredients for White Hot Chocolate

This simple white hot chocolate recipe requires only 3 ingredients for a warm, cozy treat. See recipe card for exact measurements.

  • Vanilla Protein Shake: The taste of this drink will depend on the vanilla protein shake you choose, so choose the one you like. I don’t recommend using protein powder as it tends to be too gritty and won’t mix well. I tested several liquid protein shakes and found this Fairlife Vanilla Meal Plan and Organize a pure protein shake in vanilla beans work best.
  • White Chocolate Chips: I use Lily’s Sugar Free White Chocolate Chips to keep the carbs down, but any brand will work, including chopping up a block of white chocolate.
  • Spices: Add a warm spice, such as cinnamon or nutmeg, on top.
  • Optional side dishes: Make it festive by sprinkling your glass with white chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, whipped cream or crushed candies.

I only make as much as I will drink at one time since it is so easy to make. However, if you have any left over, refrigerate it for 2 days and reheat it in the microwave.

For a vegan option, Ripple Vanilla is a fantastic choice.
